The original Zootopia was ideological. The sequel turns the dial to maximum.

WOKE -15 WOKEDisney's least-seen animated film of recent years features the studio's first openly gay animated lead character, Ethan Clade, whose crush on another boy is integrated into the story at every level: parental teasing, dating advice from dad, and a confirmed relationship at the end. This is not a background moment. It is woven throughout. The film also carries a heavy environmental message and a three-generation father-son story that partially offsets the ideology, but the gay teen lead in a children's film is the defining element.

The family's generational ritual, passed down for centuries, is presented as toxic control rather than cultural gift. The father is present but functionally powerless throughout. Every major decision in the story is made by women, the spiritual lineage is matrilineal, and the film's thesis is that a girl's body and autonomy supersede any parental or traditional authority over it. WOKE LEAN -8 WOKEThe Netflix animated musical builds its spiritual framework entirely around Korean shamanism, a female-only tradition where power comes from song, self-acceptance, and ritual rather than faith or divine grace. The boy band are literally demons who steal female fans and drain female power. Director Maggie Kang explicitly confirmed that lead character Rumi's arc parallels a coming-out narrative: she hides her true nature from shame and is forcibly outed. The film's central thesis is that shame is the real enemy, and radical self-acceptance is how you defeat it.

Anna's decision to destroy the dam, knowing it could destroy their kingdom, is framed as the only morally acceptable choice: structures built on colonial exploitation must be dismantled regardless of the cost to those who benefit. The film applies a direct reparations framework to a children's fantasy. The Northuldra are the noble, nature-connected indigenous people; the Arendellians are the corrupt Western kingdom.

Toy Story 4 (2019)
WOKE LEAN -9 WOKEToy Story 4 quietly dismantles everything the first three films argued. Woody's defining values -- loyalty, purpose, commitment to a child -- are reframed as unhealthy attachments he needed to transcend. He abandons his friends and his purpose to live freely, and the film frames this as wisdom. Bo Peep's self-directed life without a child is presented as aspirational. This is the therapeutic-culture worldview applied to a franchise that was built on the opposite premise: the authentic self supersedes prior commitments. Your children will not notice the philosophical reversal. That is the point.

Lightyear (2022)
WOKE LEAN -4 WOKEPixar's Buzz Lightyear origin film features the studio's first same-sex kiss in a feature film, restored specifically in response to the Florida "Don't Say Gay" bill controversy after being cut. Tim Allen, who voiced Buzz across four films and is publicly conservative, was replaced by Chris Evans without explanation. The ensemble casts no white male characters of significance besides Buzz himself. The same-sex relationship is presented without commentary as entirely normal, which was the stated intent of the film's production team.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
MIXED -2 WOKEThe Spider-Society is explicitly framed as an oppressive institution enforcing predetermined suffering, and the film sides unambiguously with Miles's self-determination against it. Spider-Punk is the film's coolest character and a named anarchist, present to deliver anti-institutional ideology with good aesthetics. A transgender pride flag is prominently displayed in Gwen Stacy's bedroom as a deliberate visual statement confirmed by the production team. Miles repeatedly deceives his parents throughout, and the film excuses this entirely by his good intentions. Technically the lowest woke score on this list, but the anarchist framing and ideological visuals are worth flagging.
