Adult Viewer Insight
This is a sincere tearjerker, and there's nothing wrong with that. If you loved the Colleen Hoover novel, you'll likely appreciate seeing the characters brought to life — especially with Lauren Graham and Bradley Whitford lending legitimate dramatic weight to what could have been throwaway roles. Maika Monroe (It Follows, Longlegs) is an unconventional choice for a CoHo protagonist, which is either a casting coup or a misfire depending on how her cold-edged screen presence adapts to the material's emotional demands. Adults looking for a mature romantic drama that isn't agenda-heavy should feel relatively safe here — with the caveat that CoHo adaptations can tip into manipulative emotional programming designed to bypass critical thinking. Keep your guard up without closing your heart.
