Best Traditional Movies of 2026 (So Far): VirtueVigil Top 10

The 10 highest-scoring traditional movies of 2026, ranked by net traditional margin. VirtueVigil dual-score methodology. Updated as new reviews publish.

2026 is not the disaster year some conservative viewers feared. The data says so. VirtueVigil has reviewed over 60 films released so far in 2026, and the traditional side of the ledger is stacked. Not every studio release is a lecture. Not every blockbuster hides an agenda in the third act. A few films this year are doing something rarer still: treating traditional values as virtues worth celebrating rather than problems to deconstruct.

These are the 10 highest-scoring traditional films of 2026 so far, ranked by net score margin using the VirtueVigil WOKE/TRAD dual methodology. The methodology counts verified trope instances weighted by severity, authenticity, and centrality to the narrative. The margin is the difference between TradScore and WokeScore. A margin of +28 means the traditional values content dominates the woke content by 28 points. These are not editorial picks. The scores built this list.

Rankings run from #1 (highest net traditional margin) to #10. Every film links to its full VirtueVigil review with trope audits, creative team analysis, and parental guidance. The summaries below give you enough to make a decision. The full reviews give you the receipts.

#1 — A Great Awakening (2026)

STRONGLY TRADITIONAL TRAD: 28.7 WOKE: 0.35 MARGIN: +28.4

Genre: History / Drama / Faith • Platform: Theatrical

The highest-scoring traditional film of 2026 so far tells the true story of the unlikely friendship between George Whitefield and Benjamin Franklin during the First Great Awakening. Whitefield was the era's most powerful evangelical preacher. Franklin was its most famous skeptic. History put them in the same city at the same time, and what happened between them is more interesting than anything Hollywood invented this year.

Sight and Sound Films does not hedge. A WokeScore of 0.35 is essentially a rounding error. The TradScore of 28.7 reflects dense faith-positive content throughout: revival as genuine community transformation, the tension between reason and revelation treated seriously, and the idea that spiritual conviction changes people and changes civilizations. No deconstruction. No ironic distance. Take your skeptic friends. They deserve to see this argument made well.

#2 — Dhurandhar: The Revenge (2026)

STRONGLY TRADITIONAL TRAD: 26.74 WOKE: 0 MARGIN: +26.7

Genre: Spy / Action / Thriller • Platform: Theatrical

Bollywood delivered the most unapologetically patriotic action film of the year, and director Aditya Dhar built it at 229 minutes without a single apology for the subject matter. WokeScore: zero. A perfect zero. TradScore 26.74.

Hollywood has spent a decade loading every action film with institutional guilt, second-act moral reckonings, and heroes who have to stop mid-plot to question whether their violence is problematic. Dhurandhar does not bother. National honor, masculine sacrifice, and the duty to protect your country are the film's entire argument, made at operatic scale with the conviction of a filmmaker who believes every word of it. The most purely traditional action film reviewed by VirtueVigil in 2026 by the numbers.

#3 — Psycho Killer (2026)

STRONGLY TRADITIONAL TRAD: 29.0 WOKE: 3.0 MARGIN: +26.0

Genre: Thriller • Platform: Theatrical

Andrew Kevin Walker wrote Se7en, one of the most morally coherent crime films of the past thirty years. Se7en treated evil as genuinely evil and paid real consequences for staring at it too long. Psycho Killer continues that work. Walker spent years trying to get this film made, and the wait produced a thriller that respects the weight of its subject matter.

The highest raw TradScore on this list at 29.0. The film treats justice as an absolute, frames moral clarity as a value rather than a limitation, and gives its villain no redemptive subtext. Evil is evil. That is a conservative position in 2026 Hollywood, and Psycho Killer makes it without flinching. An adult film with adult content, but one that earns every frame of its R rating for the right reasons.

#4 — Beast (2026)

STRONGLY TRADITIONAL TRAD: 27.0 WOKE: 1.5 MARGIN: +25.5

Genre: Sports Action Drama • Platform: Theatrical

An MMA legend walked away from fighting, became a commercial fisherman, and built a quiet life. Then the people he loves were threatened. Beast is the masculine protector story done exactly right: no revision, no deconstruction, no third-act speech questioning whether the hero's protective instinct is healthy.

Daniel MacPherson plays Patton James with the stillness of a man who knows what he is capable of and has chosen not to be that person, right up until the moment he has no choice. TradScore 27.0, WokeScore 1.5. The genre Hollywood used to build careers on: a man who can fight, chooses not to, and then does it anyway because something matters more than his own peace. No apologies attached. The audience deserves exactly this.

#5 — Shelter (2026)

STRONGLY TRADITIONAL TRAD: 32.0 WOKE: 9.0 MARGIN: +23.0

Genre: Action • Platform: Theatrical

Jason Statham plays a former government assassin living off-grid on a remote Scottish island. A dog. No mobile phone. Then someone who needs protecting shows up, and the film becomes the story of a man who has not stopped being what he was trained to be, and chooses to use it for something good.

Shelter carries the highest raw TradScore on this entire list at 32.0. The masculine protector framework is the whole film. No deconstruction, no ironic distance, no late-film revelation that the hero's violence was the real problem all along. Statham being Statham, directed by someone who trusts the audience to want exactly that. The woke score of 9.0 reflects minor contemporary elements that do not compromise the dominant traditional architecture.

#6 — Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man (2026)

STRONGLY TRADITIONAL TRAD: 28.0 WOKE: 5.0 MARGIN: +23.0

Genre: Crime / Drama / History • Platform: Theatrical / Netflix

Six seasons of television promised a masculine, morally serious crime drama about a man who carries the weight of his choices and refuses to pretend otherwise. The film delivered on every one of those promises.

Tommy Shelby comes out of hiding to save his son and fight the rise of European fascism, and the film treats loyalty, sacrifice, and legacy as genuine virtues rather than inherited burdens to be shed in a therapy session. TradScore 28.0, WokeScore 5.0. Cillian Murphy gives the performance this character always deserved. The best theatrical crime drama of 2026 and a conclusion the franchise earned.

#7 — The Optimist: The Bravest Act Is Truth (2026)

STRONGLY TRADITIONAL TRAD: 24.82 WOKE: 3.01 MARGIN: +21.8

Genre: Drama / Biography • Platform: Theatrical (Limited)

A small independent film about Herbert Heller, a real Holocaust survivor who kept his past secret for 60 years, and the friendship that finally gave him the courage to speak. Not political. No marketing budget. No celebrity press tour. A passion project by a filmmaker who believed the story deserved to be told.

TradScore 24.82, WokeScore 3.01. The Optimist is quietly devastating in the way that only films confident in their subject matter can be. It treats human dignity as a given rather than a position to argue. Truth-telling as courage, family as the ground everything stands on, and the idea that carrying a burden for a lifetime and then setting it down is one of the bravest things a person can do. The kind of film that deserves ten times the audience it will find.

#8 — Solo Mio (2026)

STRONGLY TRADITIONAL TRAD: 21.88 WOKE: 1.0 MARGIN: +20.9

Genre: Romance / Comedy / Drama • Platform: Theatrical

Kevin James flies to Italy for his wedding and gets left at the altar. His fiance leaves a note saying she is not ready and disappears. Instead of flying home, he stays. What follows is one of the warmest, most genuinely funny comedies of 2026, and one that earns its traditional values score through the actual story rather than as set dressing.

TradScore 21.88, WokeScore 1.0. Solo Mio argues that real love requires showing up, that accountability matters more than chemistry, and that the right person is often waiting in a place you had no intention of going. Traditional romance built on compatible values rather than manufactured tension. One of the most pleasant surprises of the year, and proof that Kevin James has real range when he trusts the material.

#9 — Project Hail Mary (2026)

STRONGLY TRADITIONAL TRAD: 26.88 WOKE: 6.05 MARGIN: +20.8

Genre: Sci-Fi • Platform: Theatrical

A man wakes up alone on a spacecraft with no memory of who he is or why he is there. The film ends with him choosing to stay in a distant solar system because someone else needs him more than Earth does. Everything between those two moments is the most morally coherent science fiction film in years.

TradScore 26.88, WokeScore 6.05. Project Hail Mary celebrates competence without apology, treats sacrifice as its own reward rather than something requiring therapeutic processing, and builds its entire emotional architecture around the conviction that some things are worth giving everything for. Ryan Gosling commits fully to the material. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller direct with precision and genuine warmth. A rare major studio release that trusts its audience to respond to genuine heroism without needing the film to complicate it.

#10 — I Swear (2026)

STRONGLY TRADITIONAL TRAD: 22.1 WOKE: 1.4 MARGIN: +20.7

Genre: Biography / Drama • Platform: Theatrical

Kirk Jones' biographical drama follows John Davidson, a Scottish man with Tourette syndrome who became an advocate for understanding and human dignity. TradScore 22.1, WokeScore 1.4. The film does not traffic in pity. It does not frame Davidson's condition as a political identity or his advocacy as activism in the contemporary sense of that word. It is a story about one man's courage, his family's love, and the conviction that the measure of a person is their heart.

I Swear rejects shame and cruelty with equal firmness. It treats family as the foundation everything else is built on. It shows that courage is not absence of fear but the decision to speak anyway, to live anyway, to claim the dignity you were always owed. One of the most profoundly human films in the 2026 top 10, and the lowest-profile entry on this list. That is why it is here: the score does not care about marketing budgets.

The Methodology Behind This List

Every score on this list is generated by VirtueVigil analysts applying the full VVWS methodology. Each film undergoes a trope-by-trope audit with scores weighted by severity, authenticity, and centrality to the narrative. The TradScore measures density of traditional values content: family, faith, masculine virtue, individual responsibility, patriotic framing, sacrifice, and earned moral authority. The WokeScore measures the inverse: progressive identity politics, anti-establishment messaging, traditional value deconstruction, and ideological prescription embedded in the story.

The Score Margin is TradScore minus WokeScore. Every film on this list has a positive margin, meaning traditional values content dominates the progressive content by the listed number of points. A margin of +28 is rare in any year of Hollywood output. That three films on this list carry margins above +25 says something real about what 2026 is producing for traditional audiences willing to look beyond the A-list prestige releases.

This list will be updated as more 2026 films are reviewed. The data decides the rankings. Browse the full catalog and see every film scored, ranked, and broken down at VirtueVigil Reviews. For the other side of the 2026 ledger, see Most Woke Movies of 2026.
