Your website is a great resource and has potential for growth in popularity. That said, I have the impression that some reviews like this one are written without having watched the show. Now I may be wrong as approved critics do have early access to shows before but given that you published this a day before it was released that can give the impression that you did not watch this show. That is the quickest way to lose credibility and with that your website will struggle.

This is a different take from the other reviews I read (The Federalist, The Washington Examiner and Time) The first two, from conservative publications, felt that the moral of the story was changed and that self-reliance is overrated. The Time's critic was extolling the virtue of the series having been modernized. "Sonnenshine’s intentions are noble in transforming Little House into a vision of frontier multiculturalism battling entrenched white supremacy, even if the show suggests a dubious moral equivalence between the Ingallses and the Mitchells.

" it reveals the limits of an entertainment industry that can only tell one kind of story about gender and power: the one where men are monsters and women, even murderous ones, are their victims" Well said! I am so tired of this narrative in so many films and series.

Thanks, I found this show very enjoyable with little or nothing objectionable.

I agree. Season one of Stranger Things was great and I don't recall any woke tropes. This show should have been one and done.

You reviewed this earlier this year and it was highly woke. This confirms what I have heard. https://virtuevigil.com/reviews/the-pitt-s2-2026/ Is this review for season 1? While I have read much praise about season one from mainstream critics, my understanding is that there wasn't much change in the political nature of the show from the first season to the second season and they were both extremely progressive. I know it is common for TV critics to review a show after watching the first few episodes to let potential viewers know if it is worth starting but unfortunately in many cases the quality or political nature may change after the first few episodes.

My favorite series of all-time! While I understand that prohibition of drugs is better than legalization, it is not without its problems and I wouldn't assign much wokeness to it. As you point out, they do depict the brutalness of the drug trade as well as use.

I grew up watching The Godfather and other crime dramas of the 1970s, and my memory may be fuzzy but I don't recall dangerous mob matriarchs being a thing in media back then. Guess what? The original source material for this show doesn't include Annette Benning's character. I'm not saying women can't be crime bosses but they are way overrepresented in television in movies today. Maybe it is progress to include unlikable female characters since most shows are full of men doing terrible things to women, but it does seem a bit unrealistic.

"No shaky cam. No cut-every-second editing. You can see what is happening and understand the stakes of each fight." Hm, I think I must have watched a different movie.

I think this series should have more woke score, I know this rating is only for season 3 but the entire series have a lot of "woke" The fact that the father and his specie had the ideology of "our specie is superior and we're gods" and then his son come up and fight not only to save the world, also to change the mindset/ideology of the viltrumite specie and be more peaceful sounds pretty woke to me. SPOILER WARNING! In season 4 the series have two episodes that might be woke for some people, in one of these episodes they show a "hell" that includes demons and satan, in the other one they openly speak about abortion and how it was necesary for Atom Eve, but also how much that action made her kinda guilty. There's a lot of woke in the series so seing this rating "traditional" don't make a lot of sense to me, i think it should be mixed or a little bit of more woke than traditional.

I'm curious if anyone who has seen the original mini-series can speak to how the new series is in comparison.

The edit function is not working. Had a typo that I corrected here. I am NOT a fan of watching people being badly mistreated for their race but people on the left seem to love seeing this depicted.

I read a few other articles about this show. Wasn't the mistreatment of Native Americans by the Catholic nuns a big part of this series. Obviously Native Americans were mistreated throughout our history and there is basis for it. That said, Hollywood loves stories that depict Catholics and Christians in a negative light. They also love to divide us with stories about minority groups being treated harshly and explore oppressors and oppressed. I am hot a fan of watching people being badly mistreated for their race but people on the left seem to love seeing this depicted. I'm curious to know your thoughts on how this played out. They could have easily written this series without exploring this topic.

It is a shame; if I remember correctly I thought Stranger Things season 1 was outstanding. I agree that the seasons after were very disappointing and we won't finish it.

I watched the first two episodes and it had some potential. However, I was concerned that John's father, Matty, seemed a bit too Archie Bunkerish and the sister Blaire is as progressive as a current millennial. The IMDB reviews of episode 6 in season 1 implied that the show was making a hard left turn with its politics. I could do without the sister and the dad, if he turns out to be another over the top dumb conservative male to mock.

Digging deeper than seeing this as "corporation bad", it's really an exploration of whether the work-life balance and work-life-home-life separation are feasible ideas. Employers try to cut employees off from their attention-competing family/home/spiritual life by trying to make their workplace into these things - this show's company is a exaggerated caricature of what most real companies are like. For example, companies try to evoke a spiritual devotion to the company's well-being by presenting it as a moral high-ground, convincing employees to view their contributions as more valuable than the pay they receive - which is really what they're *supposed* to be there for - sacrificing their time with their family to bring pay home to support them. There's a lot of assault on traditional values being addressed by this show's exploration of corporate-employee relations, to view it as another mindless anti-corporate propaganda is really missing some brilliant writing.
