Marlow and Moss are talented songwriters, and the pastiche of pop styles from Beyonce to Britney to Adele is well executed. The problem is not the craft. It is the ideology. The historical wives are stripped of their actual substance and recast as interchangeable trauma avatars whose only meaningful choice is to reject the man who defined them. Catherine of Aragon's real story is one of deep Catholic faith and loyalty to her marriage vows; the show flattens her into a woman who was simply done wrong.
