Parents of young children already know whether PAW Patrol lives in their house. If you have a child under seven, the theme song has been stuck in your head since 2013 and you have opinions about whether Marshall or Chase is the better pup. The Dino Movie, the franchise's third theatrical feature, will not change any minds about the series. It will, however, get your child through 88 minutes of air-conditioned theater time, and as any parent of a preschooler knows, that alone is worth the ticket price.

The plot is exactly what the poster suggests: a storm carries the PAW Patrol to a mysterious dinosaur island, where they meet Rex, a stranded pup who lives among the prehistoric creatures. The villain, as always, is Mayor Humdinger, whose reckless mining operation triggers a volcano. The pups must rescue the dinosaurs, stop the eruption, and get everyone home. If you guessed that they succeed, you have watched any PAW Patrol episode ever made.

Director Cal Brunker also helmed the previous two PAW Patrol theatrical releases, and he knows exactly what the brand requires: bright colors, fast cuts, vehicles that transform into other vehicles, and enough dinosaur variety to keep children naming species at the screen. The animation is a modest upgrade from the TV series but nothing approaching Pixar or Illumination production values. This is a television show stretched to feature length, and it feels like one.

There is, however, something genuinely worth noting about the PAW Patrol franchise that makes it an outlier in 2026 children's entertainment. The show has no agenda. None. It is not smuggling progressive messaging under the cover of cute animals. It is not teaching your child that police are scary, that traditional gender roles are oppressive, or that the environment is doomed because of capitalism. It is teaching your child that when someone needs help, you help them. That is the whole moral universe of PAW Patrol, and it has been the whole moral universe since the show premiered in 2013.

This is rarer than it should be. Disney and Pixar have spent the last decade layering identity politics into content aimed at very young children. Netflix's children's programming increasingly centers on characters who explain their pronouns, their family structures, and their political commitments before any plot happens. The BBC's Bluey, which conservatives correctly identify as a high-quality show, still makes room for episodes about inclusive playgrounds and non-traditional family models. PAW Patrol does none of this. It has never done any of this. It is the last remaining mass-market children's franchise that does not seem interested in molding your child's worldview beyond 'be brave, be kind, work together.'

The most political thing about The Dino Movie is Humdinger's mining operation, which is reckless and greedy and therefore bad. The film does not expand this into a critique of fossil fuels. It does not have the pups install solar panels on the Lookout. It makes the same point Aesop made: don't be greedy and don't destroy things that aren't yours. That is moral instruction, not indoctrination.

Is it a good movie? By adult standards, no. The jokes are predictable, the animation is functional, and the stakes are nonexistent - you know from the opening credits that everyone will be fine. But the question with children's entertainment is never whether adults enjoy it. The question is: what is it doing to your child while they watch? The answer for PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie is: nothing you need to worry about. It is loud, colorful, and morally harmless. In 2026, that qualifies as a recommendation.
